Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 until Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is an unassuming town that is located in the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. It is the West Island, to those who are unfamiliar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island did not last long. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to be an actor, but after a sudden expansion, she and her partner weren't able to dance with her. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." After I became too big for my male friends, I quit. There are many dancers who make the move into acting. As for the Brugel family, it was their drama teacher who encouraged her in that direction. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the school's annual production. She was able to audition and be cast as Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. For the past twenty years, Brugel's roles on TV and the big screen have been varied. Her role as Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most notable. Brugel appeared only on rare instances in the initial season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
